From 22 to 25 April 2023, Terre&Sapori, in collaboration with the Municipality of Gargnano, the Parish of San Martino and the Pro Loco This is Gargnano, organizes the seventh edition of Giardini d'Agrumi.
In the monastery of San Francesco, a pomological table of over 50 varieties of citrus fruit from Upper Lake Garda is compiled.
A route accompanies the visitor to discover about twenty private gardens, including the extraordinary garden of Palazzo Bettoni-Cazzago in Bogliaco, exceptionally open to the public, where citrus fruits have been and are grown.
The event is accompanied by exhibitions, cultural meetings, educational workshops, show cooking and a market of citrus fruits and local and traditional products.
Giardini d'Agrumi is the official event of Bergamo Brescia Capital of Culture 2023.
In the Convent of San Francesco, a pomological table will be set up with over 50 varieties of citrus fruits grown in Upper Garda, as well as an exhibition of tools once used for growing citrus fruits in the Garda area and the installation of photographs and poem fragments The dream of four oranges, edited by Carlo Bava and Maria Cristina Pasquali. A sales point of books dedicated to citrus fruits, lemon groves and the landscape of Upper Garda will be set up.
Following the historic routes of Via Crocefisso and Via San Giacomo and in the nucleus of the villa up to Bogliaco, you reach the places where citrus fruits were grown and are still grown today, sometimes still following ancient techniques, thanks to about twenty of owners, who will make their pages visitable.
The extraordinary garden of Palazzo Bettoni Cazzago in Bogliaco will also be open for guided tours.
The itinerary also includes the Ecomuseum of the Limonaia di Prato della Fame in Tignale and the Limonaia Madernina di Toscolano Maderno in Piazzale Salvo D'Acquisto, recently restored with a citrus grove.
All the lemon groves affected by the event will be open to visitors on Saturday 22 (12-18) and Sunday 23 April (10-18), some with reduced visiting hours indicated in the final map, while on Monday 24 April (10-18) and Tuesday 25 dozens of lemon groves will be opened in April.
In the former town hall of Gargnano is set up: the exhibition Incarti d'Agrumi: 100 years of history and customs, where a selection of citrus tissue papers from the extraordinary collection of Romana Gardani, the most important Italian collection (the second in the world) with over 40,000 pieces that collects these humble objects that have gone through over a century of history and customs, taking us back in time and renewing memories and suggestions.
In the exhibition hall of the Kindergarten you can visit: Ali nelle Limonaie, an exhibition of watercolors from the world of birds that frequents the Limonaie (curated by Roberto Bertoli, Stefania Capelli, Marzia Possoni).
The event is also accompanied by cultural meetings, guided tours, educational and sensorial workshops, musical and artistic moments and a market dedicated to citrus fruits and local gastronomic and artisan products, enriched every year by new exhibitors, also from other citrus-growing areas.
In addition to the volunteers, this year about thirty students from the Liceo Fermi di Salò will greet and accompany visitors throughout the event.
It is confirmed - given the considerable success of the past editions - Giardini d'Agrumi by boat to enjoy the landscape of lemon groves on the lake with departure from the port of Gargnano (for a fee, detailed information on site).
Local restaurants and bars offer themed menus and hotels offer tour packages for visitors.
