Moniga is a beautiful village on the lake, in the heart of the hills between Desenzano and Salò in the province of Brescia on the Lombard shore of Lake Garda. Moniga is very easy to reach, very hospitable and is full of local beauties and typicalities.
Inhabited since the ancient Bronze Age, Moniga dle Garda has the typical structure of medieval villages with a maze of alleys and narrow streets onto which balconies full of multicolored flowers and scented with jasmine open. Dominating the whole is the 10th century Castle, perfectly preserved, even in the defensive wall structure. It is a municipal defensive construction, similar to that of Padenghe and to the others present in the area.
A curiosity: in the period of the barbarian invasions, an ingenious system of connections between the various castles and refuges was developed, thanks to which, by exchanging agreed signals, it was possible to warn the city of Brescia of danger.
The national magazine of rosé wines "Italia in Rosa" is organized in Moniga, and the town is nicknamed "Città del Chiaretto" from the name of the rosé wine that is produced here: the DOC wine "Chiaretto" based on Groppello, a characteristic native vine of Valtènesi.
Valtènesi is a territory made up of coastal municipalities overlooking the lake and inland municipalities nestled on the hills, worth a visit for the beauty of the places and landscapes: ancient villages, medieval castles, splendid villas, and towers rich in history.
Furthermore, also from the food and wine point of view, it is a town known for its products of excellence: in addition to the DOC wine, the DOP extra virgin olive oil also boasts a production of excellence.
The municipality of Moniga del Garda, from the morainic hill descends gently towards Lake Garda on which it has built its small port, the long promenade by the lake that connects Moniga to Padenghe, in summer days is very popular with tourists.
The Castle of Moniga rises near the parish church of San Martino, the walls are rectangular in shape with a circumference of about 280 meters. We recommend the pedestrian path that connects Moniga del Garda to Padenghe, it is in fact a path suitable for adults and children, and allows you to enjoy splendid panoramas and glimpses of Lake Garda.
