North of Salò, a few kilometers away, is Gardone Riviera, famous for hosting Gabriele D'Annunzio in the last years of his life.
The poet, with the help of the architect Maroni, built the Vittoriale degli Italiani, a villa transformed into a museum, very original and full of ideas even for the little ones.
Among the particularities of the Vittoriale, noteworthy are the residence itself, the amphitheater, the cruiser Puglia reassembled in the center of the park, the boathouse, containing the "MAS" (ship used by D'Annunzio in 1918), and the circular mausoleum of d'Annunzio.
There is an entrance fee but there are many reductions for students and children under 18.
Children under 6 enter for free.
Continuing along the lakeside, small villages, inlets and very picturesque coves follow one another, this area of the lake is very sheltered and has a mild climate all year round.
It can always be reached by going up north to Limone sul Garda, a beautiful village famous for its splendid citrus groves, until you reach Riva del Garda, in Trentino.

And if the children, perhaps get bored walking through the historic centre, they will instead appreciate the lakeside promenade that goes from Riva to Torbole. The walk winds through gardens and beaches, offering a breathtaking view of the lake in front. The route is very simple, suitable for pushchairs, and in about 50 minutes you reach Torbole.
The surroundings of Riva offer many opportunities for walks and excursions. the beautiful Lake Ledro (if you have time, don't miss it, you will fall in love with it!), and the small lake of Tenno. A few km from Riva is the Varone waterfall: a huge waterfall that you literally enter!
